This is the first Asset Performance knowledge path. It focuses on whether a change is real, what was happening when it occurred, whether it affects required performance, and what response makes sense next.

Four questions keep condition evidence tied to action.
Condition information is useful only when the organization can test the evidence, understand the operating context, judge whether performance is actually affected, and choose a response that can be explained and verified.
Is the change real?
Check the source, quality, completeness, calibration, timing, lineage, assumptions, and whether the apparent change could reflect noise, instrumentation error, or a data-quality problem.
What was happening when it changed?
Interpret the signal against operating mode, load, pressure, temperature, throughput, environment, recent work, process changes, intended function, criticality, and other relevant conditions.
Does the change affect required performance?
Determine whether the condition changes the asset's ability to deliver its intended function, reliability, capacity, safety margin, useful life, or other operating requirement.
What should happen next, and what would change that response?
Compare legitimate options such as continued monitoring, additional evidence, inspection, operating change, mitigation, repair, deferral, or replacement. Preserve the key assumptions, ownership, review triggers, and how the result will be verified.
